*FEATURED ON THIS EPISODE…*
► 0:47 – RECENT SUCCESS STORY – An airplane mechanic was on long-term disability after a stroke, and suffered from paralysis. Almost two years into his long-term disability claim, his insurance provider told him that he should return to work.
► 6:37 – A caller from The Employment Hour: I have been off work for a month due to severe anxiety. I applied for disability benefits, but the insurance company denied my claim because they didn’t agree with my doctor’s report. My doctor says I can’t return to work, and my employer says that if I can’t return to my position, with the same supervisor, I will be fired.
► 3 Situations When You Must Call a Disability Lawyer (when should I call a disability lawyer?)
• 11:46 – When your long-term disability claim has been denied
• 15:08 – When you have been receiving LTD for a while and are now told that your LTD payments will be cut off
• 16:54 – When your LTD insurance company threatens that if you don’t do something they ask, they will cut you off
► 20:41 – help@disabilityrights.ca – You keep getting questions from people about the phrase “total disability”. Can you please explain in more detail, what does total disability mean in the context of long-term disability? Does it mean that people need to be in a coma to qualify for LTD?
► 24:33 – My Disability Questions – I work as a manager in a large company and I make $115,000 a year with bonus. I’ve been struggling with depression all my life but after last year’s divorce it got worse. My psychologist says I can’t work, but my insurance company says if I don’t return soon I will be cut off. I’m not ready to go back but I’m afraid to tell that to the insurance company.
► 27:22 – help@disabilityrights.ca – I reached the 24-month mark with my long-term disability and now my insurance company says that I don’t get any more benefits. I’m 46 years old. I checked my policy and it says that I should be able to get my benefits until age 65. I don’t understand why they are ending my payments. What can I do?
