► 1:44 Week That Was – A 38 teacher who was suffering from depression. She initially received short-term disability while off work, but when she went to apply for long-term disability she was denied.
► 5:35 – help@disabilityrights.ca – I work for a shipping company and have been off work for almost 2 years because of a back injury. I applied for LTD shortly after going on leave but was denied by my insurance company. I’m on my second appeal now, but I’m worried I will be denied again, and I’ve already been off work with no income for almost 2 years. My doctor agrees that my injury is too severe to return to work yet. What can I do to get the insurance company to approve my appeal?
► 3 things you do which could cause your LTD insurer to cut off payments:
• 11:05 – Fail to provide updated medical reports confirming your ongoing disability.
• 13:48 – Fail to follow your doctors’ treatment recommendations.
• 15:33 – Fail to comply with a return to work program.
► 18:30 – help@disabilityrights.ca – I have been off work due to stress and depression for the last 2 years. My doctor has me on anti-depressants and has said I can’t return to work. I applied for long-term disability and was turned down because they claim the doctor didn’t submit enough proof. They contacted my employer to ask about early retirement. I feel like they are turning me down because they want to force me to take early retirement. What can I do?
► 22:21 – http://www.mydisabilityquestions.com – My adjuster told me that the fact that I’m not willing to try to go back to work is evidence that I’m not trying to get better and as a result, my long-term disability will be cut off. I’m not ready to return to work and my doctor agrees. I’m afraid that if I try to go back when I’m not ready that it will make me much worse. What can I do?
► 24:26 – help@disabilityrights.ca – My partner has been off from work for 4 years on LTD. After 2 years, the insurance company said he had to apply for CPP disability or be cut off since he could no longer return to work. He did, but should he receive both LTD and CPP disability? What if he is rejected for CPP disability? Can he be cut off LTD?
